Avocado Toast and Blue Bottle Coffee

DSC02140

Avocado toast is probably my favorite breakfast ever. Not probably. It really just is. It's so simple, but I think the simplicity of it makes it that much more appealing. I'm a big believer than good food doesn't necessarily mean tons of ingredients. Sometimes, it's all about the simple things in life, and avocado toast is a prime example of that perspective. Avocado toast and a great cup of coffee, that is.

Matchup: Mango v. Stella McCartney

Mango v SM

I've been swooning over these Stella McCartneys ever since I saw Anh wearing them on 9to5Chic. My only problem with them was the heel height. I prefer something much higher (at least 4 inches). So when I found this Mango version, I immediately fell in love. Seriously, this shoe obsession is getting out of hand. But at least this time it's the cheaper version I'm in love with.

It's All About Perspective

Thomas Jefferson Quote
"Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."
 - Thomas A. Edison

Mondays are often uttered with the same level of affection as a dentist appointment. They signify the end of fun-filled weekends and the recommencement of work and responsibility. But it's time we give Mondays a break and think of them as what they really are: a new day for which we should all be grateful!

Style Steal: The Jimmy Choo Edition

Say hello to my new Jimmys. I got lucky yet again with an after Christmas sale and scored these beauties from Saks. They're a beautiful, slightly teal, navy color and the perfect height - 4.5 inches.

Valentine's by the beach

“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air...”
                                                                                         - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Anyone who knows me can tell you how much I love getting dressed up. I'm the type of person to mandate a dress code (actually requiring dresses be worn) at my wine & cheese parties just to find an excuse to wear one of the many dresses in my repertoire. But sometimes, casual is the way to go.

Salads and Steel: My visit home

         IMG_4985  IMG_4983

I went to home last week, and it seems I have an affinity towards takings photos in front of steel structures. The week consisted of two weddings, lots of romping around the streets of LA, and unfortunately a lot of hacking. I caught some bug and was coughing throughout most of the trip. I got my boyfriend sick too, which sucked because we were both so lethargic, but wasn't so bad because we just ended up in bed watching the Olympics together.

NYFW Street Style

Hbz-street-style-nyfw14-day2-32-lg

It may just be my humble opinion, but are the vast majority of outfits worn at fashion weeks just absurd? Given, these aren't necessarily supposed to be everyday street wear (definitely not office attire) but the individual pieces that make up these ridic outfits aren't all that either. Maybe I'm looking at a limited sample set of NYFW photos (I checked out the 151 photo spread from Harper's Bazaar and the compilation of the "best" Day 6 street style outfits from Fashionista) but I still stand by my previous statements.

Twisted Comfort Food

Love that caramelization!
I love lamb. I mean, I really love lamb. Probably 90% of all my food posts on Instagram are of some sort of lamb dish. It's just so delicious and kinda fancy pants. Especially when I pair it with some red wine sauce...

Scent Nirvana

DSC02083

I'm not much for perfume. I usually put on a scented lotion (because, really what lotions aren't scented) and am always wary of mixing scents for fear of assaulting others' nostrils. I've only had two "signature scents" and they are both Bath & Body Works related (creamy coconut in high school, and sweet pea in college). But I've felt it's been time for a more mature signature, something womanly but not elderly.

Phillip Lim Steal

DSC02061
Sure, opening gifts one by one on Christmas morning (or in my case, afternoon) while your loved ones stare and wait for a feigned (or not) gesture of appreciation can be an overall enjoyable experience. Being with loved ones and just getting anything above that is a blessing, I think we can all agree. And just to add some butter onto that piece of sourdough, my gifts were actually pretty awesome this year. My boyfriend was ballsy enough to give this shoeaholic a pair of gold accented ankle booties. He also bought me a sweater I pinned to my "My Style" board…not knowing I already had it. Long distance relationships. I guess not memorizing each others' wardrobes comes with the territory.

Regardless of how awesome Christmas can be, I have three words for you: After Christmas Sales.
